ABOUT

The moment has arrived! With both the federal and provincial governments having approved the Kinder Morgan pipeline, Dogwood is preparing to launch a Citizens’ Initiative this spring. We are deeply concerned about the pipeline, both because of its potential to pollute our beautiful coast and because of the greenhouse gases it will add to the environment. We believe British Columbians should have the right to decide for ourselves about a project like this, rather than having it imposed on us by others.

Fortunately, our province has a unique direct democracy law called the Citizens' Initiative. After the May, 2017 provincial election, if we don’t have a government in power willing to stop this pipeline, we have the power to put this to a vote – just like when Gordon Campbell misled citizens about the HST and a Citizens’ Initiative was used successfully to stop it.

This is a big undertaking: once the writ is dropped, we will have 90 days to gather signatures from 10% of the registered voters in all the provincial ridings. We are taking the steps we need now to hit the ground running once it’s launched and we are confident this will be successful.

We will be recruiting thousands of canvassers all over the province to help with this initiative. April 11 we’ll hold an information session in Victoria to help people become more knowledgeable about the Citizens’ Initiative process. Come along and find out more about how the process works, how you can get involved, and what to expect in the coming months.
